Definition and Usage
The appendChild() method adds a node after the last child node of the
specified element node.
This method returns the new child node.

The following code fragment loads "books.xml"
into xmlDoc using
loadXMLDoc() and creates an element (<edition>), and adds it after the last
child of the first <book> element:
xmlDoc=loadXMLDoc("books.xml");
newel=xmlDoc.createElement("edition");
x=xmlDoc.getElementsByTagName("book")[0];
x.appendChild(newel);
document.write(x.getElementsByTagName("edition")[0].nodeName);
